Carl W. Kahler (1820-1889)
Carl W. Kahler was born in Mecklenburg, Germany in 1820. He married his wife, Johanna Meyers (1819-1881), who was also from Mecklenburg and their first son, Otto Hendrick, arrived while they were still in Mecklenburg in 1848.
Carl came to the United States with his brother, John Kahler, in 1850 and later had Johanna and Otto join him. Their second child, John Lewis (Johannes), was born in Sayville, Long Island, New York in 1855. Their third child, Louisa (1857-1907) was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1857 and their youngest child, Christopher (1860-1946), was also born in Illinois. The family had returned to Sayville, Long Island, New York prior to the 1870 census.
Carl died in 1889 in Sayville, Long Island, New York and is burried in Union Cemetery.
